INSIDE: If you enjoy typing and you’d like to work from home, typing from home jobs are the perfect fit. Fortunately, there are several options with varying skill sets.
Are you looking for an easy way to break into working from home? Are you a good typist?
If you answered yes to both of those questions, consider a work-from-home typing job! Even if you’re a slow typist now, there are tons of free resources you can practice with to improve your typing skills .
And as long as you have good hearing or can handle data entry, there’s a typing job out there you can do as a freelancer, whether it’s general transcription, virtual assistance, or microtasks. Read on for my guide to online typing jobs and where to apply.
1. Data Entry Jobs
Data entry work is an incredibly easy work-from-home job that’s largely open to beginners.
You shouldn’t need any special training or experience for an online data entry job. You just need to be able to type and have basic computer skills , such as entering information into an application as directed.
That could involve adding data to a spreadsheet or entering data into a company’s system. You may be expected to verify and/or edit the data, and some forms of data entry involve research.
There are also specialized forms of data entry that require more training and even certification, such as medical coding or scopistry ( editing and reviewing the transcription of a court reporter ).
Data entry is a highly repetitive job, so you need to make sure that won’t get to you over long periods.
Equipment Needed
A private desktop or laptop computer you can work on from home, with high-speed internet access, is required.
You should also have a keyboard with a number pad (or a separate number pad you can plug in via USB).
A data entry clerk may also need access to various data processing programs, such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and other Microsoft Office and G Suite applications.
How Much Can You Make?
Most data entry jobs don’t pay well because they’re easy, and almost anyone can do them. This also means competition for a remote job tends to be very fierce.
You’ll find the better-paying data entry jobs are the specialized ones mentioned above.

2. Captioning Jobs
With a captioning job, you listen to an audio file and transcribe what you hear. But instead of making simple transcription documents, you create captions on videos for people who are hard of hearing or who want to watch a video with the sound off.
Captioning tends to be more complete and more demanding than transcription, including notation of background noises, for example.
Closed captioning involves a prerecorded video file, from recorded lectures to TV programs.
A real-time captioner has a more intense job because they caption a live program, such as a sports broadcast or news show. There may only be a short delay in airtime, requiring you to be fast and accurate with your captions.
For most professional captioning jobs, you’ll need some kind of certification. Working with stenographic shorthand is often required, especially due to the demand for high typing speeds.
A computer or laptop you can work on from home with high-speed internet access is required, plus headphones to make listening to the audio easier.
You will also probably need a stenotype machine.
As a specialized form of transcription in a demanding industry, you can make more at captioning than at transcription. You may even be able to make full-time money once you have some experience and prove yourself.

3. Transcription Jobs
This is probably what you think of first when you think of work-from-home typing jobs. As a transcriptionist, you listen to audio recordings and type what you hear. It really is that simple!
You need a good sense of hearing to do a transcription job , including the ability to understand various accents and untangle multiple sources of sound – from multiple voices to background noise competing with the speaker.
You should also be a good typist, with a high typing speed and low error rate. Transcription is not an industry that tolerates much in the way of typos or other mistakes!
Some online transcription jobs, such as those serving the legal or medical industries, may require certification, which you can complete online.
Equipment Needed
To be a transcriptionist, you need a computer you can work from at home with high-speed internet access (of course).
You also need headphones to listen to audio files, and sometimes you may need specific transcription software and/or a foot pedal .
To be quite honest, entry-level transcription doesn’t pay that much, reflecting the simplicity of the job. However, experience can earn you better rates of pay, and so can specializing in medical transcription or legal transcription.
Much of the industry pay per audio hour completed, so you can also increase your rate of pay by being an incredibly quick and efficient transcriptionist.

4. Virtual Assistant Jobs
With a home virtual assistant job, you can make money online by doing many things for your client, including data entry.
Some clients may want spreadsheets created from raw data they’ve collected, or they may want you to do some research – finding companies that fit certain criteria and filling out contact details in the client’s computer system, for example.
The great thing about virtual assisting is the sheer variety of tasks you might be asked to do, and research and data collection keep the data entry part of the job from being too monotonous.
Plus, if you can offer various other services, such as social media management, ghostwriting, customer service, or mailing list optimization, you can earn more than you might in more traditional data entry-only roles.
This depends on exactly what you’ll be doing for your clients, but a home computer with high-speed internet access is the default requirement.
You should also have a comfortable place to work undisturbed for extended periods, along with access to common software programs, from Microsoft Office suite to G Suite.
It depends on how you find your virtual assistant clients, but you can make a decent wage with most VA companies (better than or comparable to the minimum wage in most states).
You can charge more if you have your own virtual assistant business and you find your own clients.

5. Micro Task Jobs
A microtask is just what it sounds like: a small task that doesn’t take long to complete but can’t be automated.
Micro tasks which require a human to complete include identifying objects in a photograph or transcribing a small audio file. Or you may be asked to write a brief paragraph or update a spreadsheet with the latest prices of a series of items.
You can find these short tasks on a variety of microtask job sites, and because they often don’t take much brain power to complete, you can knock them out while doing something more pleasant (like watching TV) or in whatever brief snatches of downtime you have throughout your day.
As with any typing-from-home job, you must have a computer to work on with high-speed internet access.
Beyond that, it’s always a good idea to have access to as many programs as possible so that you can accept a wide variety of jobs. Make sure you’re familiar with and have access to the G Suite of programs (Google Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel).
Micro tasks come with micro pay. You can expect to be paid anywhere from a few pennies to a few dollars per job. There are rare occasions that you may find viable micro jobs that pay more.

Are online typing jobs legit?
While there are a lot of scams in any work-from-home opportunity, there are many legitimate companies offering online typing jobs that have been around for a long time.
Some of the red flags to look out for include being asked for too much personal information or high starting wages. Learn more in my article about spotting work-from-home scams .
Can I make money typing at home?
Making money by typing at home will vary depending on factors such as experience, difficulty of the job, speed, and accuracy, in addition to whether you are working for a company or freelancing.
Basic word processing tends to pay the lowest, whereas transcription services can pay much more.

15 No Experience Required Work At Home Typing Jobs
Are you interested in work at home typing jobs, but don’t have experience?
One of the challenges of getting hired to any job, much less a work-at-home job, is most require some experience. But what if you don’t have a lot of experience or have been out of the work-world for awhile? The good news is that there are work-at-home jobs that don’t require experience or are entry-level home-based jobs .
If you’re hoping to get paid to type from home, you should consider transcription jobs. If you don’t have experience in transcription, but can type, here are a few places to check out. Please note that just because a company doesn’t require experience, doesn’t mean it won’t require specific skills or equipment. Here’s what you should know about getting hire to do transcription work, even if you don’t have experience.
What Transcriptionists Do
The short answer is type. But there are several kinds of transcription, including medical, legal, business, and general. In most cases, you’ll need experience to do media or legal transcription. Business and general transcription offer more opportunities for the inexperienced typists. These jobs can involve a variety of typing projects including transcribing webinars, speeches or seminars, dictation, captioning and more.
What do Transcriptionist Earn?
Transcription jobs pay minimum wage to $15 per hour on average. Some types of transcription pay more (i.e. legal) especially if it also requires knowledge of the industry and industry terminology. More experience, as well as speed and accuracy can lead to higher pay.
What Education or Certification Do Transcriptionists Need?
Medical transcription often requires a certificate or experience as a medical transcriptionist (i.e. if you worked in a doctors office as a transcriptionist). Legal transcription may require experience or education as a paralegal. However, general and business transcription often doesn’t require any special education or training.
What Skills and Equipment are Needed to Be a Transcriptionist?
While you may not need experience, you should have a few basic skills and equipment as most companies don’t supply the tools you’ll need.
Quick typing speed and accuracy: Some jobs will ask for a specific typing speed, anywhere from 40 to 80 words per minute (wpm), and many will ask you to take a typing test. You can test yourself using a free online typing test offered at a variety of sites. But speed isn’t the only skill you’re tested on. You also need to be accurate, which means you can’t make many mistakes.
Good spelling and grammar: You’re creating a written document out of spoken word. You need to know when to remove the ‘ums’, add commas and punctuation, and how to spell the words being spoken.
Computer and internet access: Some transcription companies have very specific requirements to the quality of equipment and speed of Internet you’re required to have. Some only work with PCs (no Macs) or vise versa.
Foot pedal to control audio playback: Many employers will expect you to have the tools and equipment needed to do the job, including a foot pedal that allows you to stop, start and control the speed of the audio playback while you type.
Many transcription companies will require that you work set hours or a set number of hours a week. Some ask that the transcription work be your main source of work (i.e. not something you do on the side or for short term).
Companies that Hire Transcriptionists without Experience
Please note that these companies have no- to little experience required for their transcription jobs AT THIS TIME. Before applying to any of these jobs, read the job requirements carefully and follow the directions for submitting your application.

What is a typing job?
A typing job is any job that pays you to type.
Typing may be the main skill required to do the job, or a crucial part of it.
We’ll cover 15 kinds of typing jobs in this article:
Data Entry Work
Virtual assistant, online chat jobs, community moderator, freelance writer, blog writer, transcription, translation, proofreader, ghostwriting, brand name suggestions.
Many of these typing jobs can be done on your own schedule and you can easily work from home. They’re ideal if you’re not looking for full-time work, if you have fast internet access and can type quickly ( or learn to ).
🤑 How much can I earn from a typing job?
You can earn anything from $1 per hour to $95,000 per year.
It very much depends on what kind of typing work you’re doing.
- For jobs that don’t require any experience or a degree or certification, the pay will be significantly lower than specialised typing work.
- Typing jobs can net you anything from as low as a few cents for micro tasks to as high as $95,000 per year for editing ( source ).
What kind of typing jobs can you do from home?

If you can offer various other services, like combining social media management with good customer service or understand newsletter optimization, then you can expect to earn more.
The average Virtual Assistant earns $19 per hour , according to ZipRecruiter .
Virtual Assistants can however earn much more if they have their own freelance business and do not go through third-party companies for their gigs.

For this job you need solid internet access and great hearing. A good typist, with a high typing speed and low error rate will stand out.

⌨️ How can I learn to type faster?
Some jobs, such as transcription or data entry may require you to have a certain typing speed before they hire you. A good typing speed of between 50 to 80 words per minute (WPM) will help you stand out.
- Find out your typing speed with this quick test
To increase your chances at getting typist work from clients, it is worth training your fingers to increase your typing speed.
Some tips below for doing that…
Take typing lessons
These free lessons from KeyBr can help you learn exactly where the buttons are positioned on a keyboard so you don’t have to look down while you’re typing.
This is called “touch typing” and you really should learn it if you’re serious about earning money by typing.
Practice with KeyBr every day to increase your WPM rate.
You could also get the classic typing program, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing .
Challenge yourself everyday
Try to type more words every day. If you begin by typing 50 words, try to increase it to 100 the next day, 150 the following day and so forth.
Take typing tests
You can take regular typing tests on websites such as Key Hero to improve your WPM. As you try to beat your score, you will naturally learn to type faster.
Play video games
There are many computer games that have been specifically created to improve your typing ability. The more popular ones include:
- Typing.com Typing Games
- Secret Of Qwerty
- Epistory – Typing Chronicles
What personal skills do I need to be a typist?
The two main traits needed for these types of work from home jobs:
- Having good hearing
- The ability to type fast
For jobs focused on creative writing or editing , outstanding grammar, spelling and punctuation skills are much sought after. However, often there is no additional investment or qualification needed.
💻 What equipment do I need?
You cannot do any online typing job without a computer and a keyboard. (Sorry, your smartphone or an iPad isn’t good enough!)
For some work at home jobs like audio transcription, a foot pedal will greatly increase your working speed, as well as quality headphones.
Here’s the foot pedal we recommend…
- Infinity 3 Function USB Foot Pedal/Switch
- Sturdy and durable design and ultra-heavy-duty micro switches to ensure countless hours of trouble free performance.
- The ergonomic design includes a wide, central, sloping Play pedal and the large size enables you to easily move your foot from the Play to Fast Forward or Rewind keys.
(FYI, a foot pedal lets you pause, rewind, and fast forward audio recordings with your feet. This keeps your hands focused on typing so you can transcribe faster.)
High-speed internet is also a must and you may want to invest in specialised software such as StenoCAT for Scopists .
Remember: investing in tools that speed up your workflow will leave you better off financially in the long-run.

With many typing jobs from home, you can earn $20 per hour and start a new career or make extra cash on the side. The more experience you have, the more money you’ll make.

How do I increase my typing speed?
Most jobs online will require or expect your o have a typing speed of 60 to 80 words per minute (WPM). If you want to test how quickly you type, take a speed test here and see if you need to improve.

Fiverr is an online marketplace for freelancers. Small to mid-size companies look for freelancers on Fiverr to do tasks like data entry.
The nice thing about Fiverr is you choose what you’ll do, how much you’ll charge, and the turnaround time. All communication and payment go through Fiverr, too, so you’re protected from buyers who accept work but don’t pay.
To sell more gigs and stay ahead of your competition, consider creating a portfolio and gathering as many good reviews as possible when you start. Then, with more orders and positive reviews, you can work your way up the ‘Fiverr ranks’ and have your gigs listed at the top of the listings when buyers search for data entry.
Upwork is another online marketplace for freelancers. Unlike Fiverr, though, you ‘apply’ for jobs businesses post. To do this, you’ll need to create a profile and portfolio to showcase your skills and get an edge on the competition.
Business owners then interview freelancers to decide who’s right for the job. The downside of Upwork is because you compete against so many others, the pay might not be as high, as some business owners will choose the lowest bid.
DataPlus+ hires data entry providers to work from home. They contract work with a variety of companies and need help with data entry on things like:
- Law enforcement reports
- Mailing lists
- Membership lists
- VIN validation
You work from home for DataPlus+, and to qualify, you must prove you have a computer with internet access and pass a background check.
The Data Entry Company is the world’s largest data entry company. Therefore, they always have a high need for data entry specialists.
The downside is they don’t advertise when they need new data entry operators. Instead, they rely on word-of-mouth and the popularity of their company to constantly have a pool of available data entry operators.
To apply, simply send them an email with your resume attached. Follow up if you don’t hear from them after a few weeks, but don’t give up hope because the need for data entry operators ebbs and flows depending on their business level.

Mechanical Turk is a crowdsourced marketplace run by Amazon. The micro-tasks required on the site often include data entry.
Be careful, though, as the jobs often pay low, and sometimes the pay is in Amazon gift cards. Before accepting a data entry job on MTurk, be sure you understand the task fully and can deliver what they need.
If the client isn’t satisfied with the work, they can turn it down, leaving you without pay.
The Smart Crowd is a spinoff of Lionbridge , one of the largest work-from-home companies. They’ve been around for decades, and are reliable, so you don’t have to worry about any scams working with them.
The Smart Crowd is much like MTurk with microtasks; however, most of the tasks are related to data entry. To qualify for work, you must register on the site and take short assessments to prove your abilities. Then you’ll be able to accept work.
AccuTran Global is a transcriptionist company, but they often have tasks for data entry operators. To qualify for a data entry position, you’ll need good typing skills, usually 50 to 70 words per minute, with 100% accuracy.
You might work your way up the ladder, too. After taking on small data entry jobs, you may find that transcription is something you want to try and can make even more money doing it.
Appen is a crowdsourcing website that offers a variety of microtasks, including data entry. For their micro-tasks, you can apply and start working immediately. All other tasks require you to apply and see if you’re accepted. The duration of Appen’s jobs are anywhere from an hour or two to multiple months.
Either way, they offer many ways to make money using data entry, and if you want to fill your time even further, you can answer surveys for them to supplement your income.
You probably wouldn’t think of Gorge Warehouse as a place to look for data entry jobs, but they offer many. The requirements to work there are simple, such as typing 30 wpm, but sometimes you need experience in specific software programs.
They pay per hour, so the faster you type, the more money you’ll make for your time. The opportunities there also change often, so always check back if you don’t see available data entry positions.

Scribie is a transcription company but often has data entry positions too. Unfortunately, they usually have a long waiting list, so get on it early and be patient when waiting to hear back.
When they get to your application, you must take a test, but don’t worry, you can retake it up to ten times if you don’t pass. When you pass, you’ll start working immediately and can work your way into other positions after proving your skills.
PeoplePerHour is a crowdsourced marketplace where freelancers can find jobs from home. To list your services, PeoplePerHour must approve you. After you complete the application and are approved, you can create a profile stating your rate, what you’ll do, and why businesses should hire you.
To get jobs, you send business owners a proposal for the job they’ve listed. Then, they’ll compare the bids they receive and choose the most qualified applicants.
Like any crowdsourced site, though, there’s a good chance that others will bid lower, so don’t expect top pay.
FreeUp pre-vets its freelancers to connect business owners with top-notch freelancers. However, you must apply for each job individually to get jobs on the site. Jobs are posted every day and freelancers can expect anywhere from $8 to $15 per hour. Freelancers also benefit from FreeUp’s 24/7 support.
To qualify for data entry, you must have extensive experience in data entry, prove you have excellent grammar skills, and pass the Freelancers Course.
MegaTypers is a company that provides data entry services to companies around the country, including government agencies. The requirements are minimal, such as typing ten words per minute and the ability to work flexible hours.
The pay is low, but the experience can help you get jobs with higher paying companies, and in the meantime, you’ll have supplemental income. The quicker you type, though, the more Typer Credits you will earn. Typer credits are then exchanced for payment.
Indeed is a site where you can find any job, including data entry. The nice thing about finding jobs on Indeed is you typically get hired directly by the company. Of course, some companies may still hire you as a freelancer or independent contractor, but you might get lucky enough to find a job where you get hired as an employee.
The sky’s the limit with the jobs offered on Indeed. Search for data entry positions in the industries you know the most about to increase your chances of getting hired.

Truelancer works like Upwork, allowing freelancers to bid on open jobs to win the work. Like any crowdsourced site, it’s best to have a completed profile and portfolio to prove why you’re best for the job, especially if you have higher prices than competitors.
All communication and payment go through Truelancer, so you don’t have to worry about getting stiffed, and their mobile app makes it easy to manage your business on the go.
Skills Required for Data Entry Jobs
Getting a data entry position requires several skills. Most jobs require more than just the ability to enter numbers and data into a spreadsheet.
Here are some main things you will need to be successful as a data entry worker:
This skill may seem obvious, but you will need to be comfortable doing a variety of tasks on a computer. It includes working with attachments, scanning documents, data entry in spreadsheets, using programs such as Excel and so on.
You will also need equipment such as a computer and a reliable internet connection. There’s no need for crazy computer skills, but you need to do the basics comfortably and accurately.
Don’t have a computer? Check out this article on how to get a free laptop .
One of the essential skills for data entry is typing. To consider someone for a job opening, many companies require a minimum typing speed. Before a company hires you, you’ll take an online assessment designed to test your typing skills.
The faster you can type, the quicker you can get the job done. Many companies offer task-based data entry.
As a result, fast typists can complete more work in an hour and get paid better. The average requirement for typing speed is between 40 and 60 words per minute.
Knowing how to use a spreadsheet is a critical skill for data entry roles. Many companies will require you to work using one of two spreadsheet programs: Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
Get familiar with both programs and learn their ins and outs. You may find free online training that goes over each of these, so you can learn how to use them.
Plus, if you learn one program, you should be able to use the knowledge to learn the other one.
While typing speed is important, being accurate is just as critical. Typing quickly and turning in sloppy and inaccurate work will not get you any repeat jobs.
Many companies require 98 to 99 percent accuracy to continue giving you more work.
Besides working to increase your typing speed, check your work thoroughly each time before submitting it.
Do a side-by-side evaluation to make sure everything you entered is correct, and you left nothing out. As you do more data entry work, you will get faster and more accurate with time.
Being able to communicate well is a crucial part of any job – but especially data entry. Review your tasks and ask questions before beginning the work.
If you run into any problems, tell your manager or your client in a timely fashion.
Broad knowledge of all Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, will help you with getting data entry jobs and completing the work on time.
Some clients also use Google Documents and Google Sheets, so get familiar with those programs too.
The more comfortable you are with technology and learning new programs and skills, the better you will do with data entry tasks.
Many legit companies are hiring for work-from-home data entry jobs. However, keep in mind that there are several scammers out there asking for money to get you access to jobs.
Do your research before applying for online jobs and make sure the company is legitimate. Most companies that offer work-from-home data entry will not contact you via social media to offer you a job.
You won’t be making big bucks doing data entry tasks , but it can be a great way to earn money on the side.
Most online jobs allow you to make your own schedule and take on as much or as little work as you want.

What Does A Home Typist Do?
A home typist is a person who types up documents from their home office. However, that’s just a glimpse of the job description. Typing jobs can cover many things, ranging from small data entry jobs, transcription work to even medical transcription , which in most cases may require additional training and certification.
Do I Need Any Special Skills?
For most work-at-home jobs, companies prefer typists with prior typing experience. However, since some companies are willing to pay based on an individual skill level, there’s a great chance of finding a company that is willing to recruit beginners. Keep in mind the pay may be very low.
Here are some recommended skills that are great to have if you are looking to maximize your earnings:
- Fast and accurate typing skills, of course.
- Good listening skills, especially when transcribing audio files.
- Outstanding grammar, spelling and punctuation skills.
- Basic knowledge of using a computer. You may have to troubleshoot technical issues, upload files or install new software

Work At Home Typing Jobs – Legit, No Fees

Typing jobs can be very different and there’s often more to them than just “typing.”
Before I show you where to find these jobs I thought it would be a good idea to go over the different types of work you might find.
Different Types of Typing Jobs
Just like the term “typing jobs” can be very broad so are data entry and transcription. I’ll give you the basics but just remember you’ll be doing specifics when you land a job!
Data entry is simply taking data provided by a company and entering it into some sort of system or spreadsheet. This could be entering payroll items into a system for employers, cataloging items into a system for retailers, and compiling lists of customer interactions for businesses, just to name a few.
The type of data entry job you get just depends on the industry you’re working with.
Most data entry jobs do not require a college education. You will need to have good communication skills, grammar, and of course, computer experience.

Transcription
Transcription is another type of work from home job that is interchangeably used with data entry and typing jobs. At the most basic level transcription is simply typing audio versions of documents. This could be lectures, workshops, conference calls, podcasts, and more.
With work at home transcription you are working off of recorded audio and no college degree is usually required for work from home transcription jobs.
Where to Find Work From Home Typing Jobs
Ready to find a job? Here are some companies that offer work from home positions.
3PlayMedia – 3PlayMedia hires contractors to transcribe and edit audio-based transcription. Work is very flexible. Pay is $10-$30 per hour, depending on efficiency. (The best paying job on this list.) You can apply here.
AI Media – AI Media hires contractors to caption both live and prerecorded videos. Pay ranges from $27-$42 per audio hour. Your hourly wage will depend upon your speed and accuracy. You can apply here.
Rev – Rev hires beginner transcriptionists and has a “work when you want” type of model. Pay is .40 – .70 per audio minute for transcriptionists and $5-$8 per minute for subtitlers. Your pay will depend upon your accuracy and speed. You can apply here.
TranscribeMe – TranscribeMe hires beginner transcriptionists and has a “work when you want” model based on the amount of work they have available. Average pay is $15-$22 per audio hour. Your pay will depend upon your speed and accuracy. You can apply here. https://workhub.transcribeme.com/Account/Register
Quicktate – QuickTate hires work from home typists to transcribe voice messages and various audio files. You’ll have to take a quiz to see if you qualify for a position with them and also pass a background check. No college degree is needed. You can apply here.
Dion Data Solutions – Dion Data Solutions hires part time data entry specialists. You must be able to type at 60 wpm, have a computer running Windows XP, and a stable internet connection. Dion Data Solutions provides all training for free. You can apply here.
Scribie – Is a transcription company that hires independent contractors to transcribe short audio files. The pay is $5 to $25 per 1 hour of audio. They also pay a $10 bonus on a monthly basis for every three hours’ worth of audio transcribed. All work is on a first come first serve basis and is expected to have a two hour turnaround time. If performance is good you can move up from a transcriber to a reviewer. You can apply here.
Aberdeen – Aberdeen hires real time captionists and transcribers. You can visit this page to see the current job openings they have available. If there is a job you’re interested in you can view the instructions at the top of the page to apply.
Micro Jobs for Typing
Micro jobs are small jobs paid on a per-piece basis. An example might be a typing job that requires five minutes of your time to complete and pays $1.50. These jobs are a work-when-you-want type of thing and there may not be enough work in these to bring a full time income.
Click Worker – With Click Worker you can complete a number of writing and transcription micro jobs. After filling out a qualification assessment you’ll be shown a list of jobs based on your results. You’re free to work when you want to. You can sign up visit this page
Amazon MTurk – Mechanical Turk is another micro job site. Once you sign up you’ll be able to see “HITS” which are short assignments that cover a broad range of tasks. It’s important to note that not all HITS will be typing work related. You can sign up here.
How Much Can You Make?
That really depends upon several factors, namely being the company you choose to sign up with, your speed, and your skills.
Typing jobs are not extremely high paying. I would expect to make anywhere from $7-$15 per hour.
Would I Recommend You Get an At Home Typing Job?
Honestly, it really depends on what kind of income and work you’re looking for. The barrier to entry on online typing jobs is low, that means the pay is low also. If you find your own clients you’ll make much more money.
I put this post together because so many people ask me about this type of work. But I hands down feel like freelancing is the way to go with almost all work from home jobs.
At home typing jobs can be a great first step to get your foot in the door with work from home positions but it appears you’re going to have to put in a lot of work to make a livable wage. If you’re wanting to help supplement your family’s income or are just looking for some easy work to fill up some time or as a side hustle, then one of these jobs might be a good fit.

Great list! One thing you may not know is that all reality television shows need transcribers. If you’re a good typist and are good with computers, you can get transcription work that pays pretty decent for the glut of reality television out there. All I mean by good with computers is you need to be able to download and watch the episode clips they send you, being able to pause and restart all while typing. Once you get the hang, it goes well. This kind of work can be hard to come by at first, but once you get into it and a good reputation for turnaround, TV people will seek you out with all of their projects. Note, this is only needed for reality television because editors scan text for useful footage to add to their shows. Scripted shows are already scripted so there’s no need for transcription.
July 11, 2015 at 1:38 pm
I have worked for a transcription company from home transcribing mainly US reality TV shows for the last 12 months but have quit because the pay was so poor (less than half the UK minimum wage). Can you tell me how you go about finding this kind of work independently as now I have the relevant experience and equipment this is something I would certainly like to find out more about? Hope you can help me here!

Hi Jill, you can search for freelance transcriptionist jobs online and update your resume to send to potential clients. This post shares details about how to land entry-level transcription jobs but since you have some experience, I’d recommend reaching out to clients directly and pitching them on your services: https://singlemomsincome.com/entry-level-online-transcription-jobs/ You can cold pitch if you come across a website or potential client that may need your help, or you can apply through job boards.

Thats a great post, thank You for the info.. I was wondering if you had any rccomendations apart from Upwork/Elance for entry level freelancers?
May 8, 2016 at 12:03 pm
Just an FYI, Quickrate requires you to pay $15 for your own background check. You cannot simply give them one, if you already have it. Scribie, the pay is a joke. Transcribe 6 minutes of audio for $1. Whether it takes 10 minutes or 2 hours, it’s $1, from beginning to end.

Hi Elizabeth. you should apply for one of the options mentioned in this post. Please note Aberdeen is currently not hiring anyone for transcription work, but you should check back with them in a few weeks just in case something opens up.
October 28, 2016 at 1:32 am
Hey Alexa thanks, i was looking for that types of places that hire work from positions and i got it from your sites. Out of this four list which one is best can you suggest me please??
November 1, 2016 at 9:24 am
It looks like Aberdeen is not hiring any transcriptionists right now. If you’re a beginner, Scribie may be a good option but you won’t earn much. You should try to apply with either Quicktate or Dion Data Solutions.

Thank you for all the information posted. I appreciate it! Another work from home opportunity if you have a bachelors degree is vipkid.us. You can make anywhere from $15-22 per hour teaching English via internet to kids in China. It is so much fun. I started this last October 2016. You are required to work 7.5 hours per week sometime during these specific times: Mon-Thu. 4 am-8 am /Fri.4am -8am; 7pm- 12 am/ Sat. 12 am-8am; 7pm-12am/Sun. 12am- 8am. You are also required to wear a bright orange shirt (all the teachers wear orange so they look alike…like construction worker orange. It’s a great job if you have kids at home, but feel you want to contribute to the family income in some way without leaving the kids at a daycare. All the best! Ingrid Norton
