Telstra business mobile plans review
For those businesses that don’t mind paying a bit extra, Telstra business mobile plans.

We are committed to sharing unbiased reviews. Some of the links on our site are from our partners who compensate us. Read our disclosure policies to learn more.
Telstra has a reputation for being a premium telco whose plans are, likewise, offered at a premium price. These days, there’s not much difference between a personal SIM Only plan from Telstra and a business mobile plan: prices and data inclusions are the same.
While Telstra business mobile plans aren’t the cheapest in our comparison engine, they do offer a decent amount of data, ranging from comfortably above average to plenty of gigabytes at 5G speeds. The lack of excess data charges is a nice touch, and no contracts makes it easier to shift around. Still, it’s a shame that Telstra business plans are paid upfront nowadays rather than after the fact.
Telstra business mobile plans value for money
Telstra’s value comes from tapping into Australia’s largest mobile network as well as some of the features outlined in the next section. In terms of dollar-to-data value, Telstra plans don’t fare particularly well. Check out the cheapest Telstra business mobile plan below, which has a decent amount of monthly data (40GB) but only gives you access to the Telstra 4G network.
Telstra’s cheapest SIM Only plan is towards the bottom of our database in terms of value, with alternatives from the Vodafone and Optus networks that are cheaper with more data, some of which also offer 5G. There are even Telstra MVNOs with better value. For comparison, below is a daily updating list of popular SIM Only plans from our comparison engine that have at least 40GB of data.
Telstra’s next business mobile plan comes with double the data and access to the Telstra 5G network (as do the other Telstra plans below) but doesn’t cost anywhere near close to double the price.
While 80GB is a decent chunk of data to work with there are, again, SIM Only plans on the Optus, Vodafone and Telstra MVNO network that offer better value at this price point. Below is a daily updating list of popular SIM Only plans from our comparison engine with at least 80GB of monthly data to play with.
If you need any more data, you can have a look at Telstra’s next most expensive SIM Only plan, which has 120GB of data.
At the time of writing, the same monthly price with Vodafone nets you an unlimited-data SIM Only plan, which includes 5G access . There are also Optus and Telstra MVNO network contenders with better value. For comparison, below is a daily updating list of popular SIM Only plans with at least 100GB of monthly data.
Finally, Telstra’s last plan has the most amount of data (180GB) to use on the Telstra 5G network.
While there aren’t too many SIM Only plans in our comparison engine that offer at least 180GB of data, Telstra’s most expensive Upfront plan is also the most expensive in our database (except when it has discounted promotional pricing). Alternatives from Vodafone , Optus and Spintel all have more data and noticeably cheaper monthly pricing.
Telstra business mobile features and perks
When you buy a Telstra business mobile plan you get unlimited standard national calls and texts included, and there aren’t any contracts. Note that while you can buy Telstra Prepaid plans , Telstra’s business mobile plans are targeted at those after SIM Only plans or those seeking to pair a new iPhone or Android handset with an ongoing monthly plan.
That said, Telstra SIM Only is called Telstra Upfront which, as the name suggests, means you’re paying for your plan ahead of the month like an automatically recharging Prepaid plan instead of at the end of your monthly billing cycle like a typical SIM Only plan.
While the cheapest Telstra plan only grants access to the Telstra 4G network, Telstra’s other SIM Only plans grant access to Telstra’s growing 5G network, which is currently the biggest in Australia. If you burn through your monthly data allowance, there aren’t any excess charges, though being slowed to 1.5Mbps for the rest of your billing cycle isn’t ideal. For those who need more post-cap speed, consider a Vodafone mobile plan: the more you pay with Vodafone SIM Only plans, the faster the capped speed (up to 10Mbps or even unlimited max-speed data).
Speaking of data, if you do have extra gigabytes you’re not using each month, you can share them with other eligible Telstra mobile plans under the same account. It’s not the greatest international call allowance , but Telstra SIM Only plans do include unlimited SMS and MMS to standard numbers in all countries as well as a paltry 30 minutes of calls.
Telstra SIM Only plans also include data-free streaming of AFLW and netball, as well as access to the Telstra Plus program with access to a rewards store, discounted tickets, entertainment extras and VIP services. These last inclusions aren’t particularly important to businesses but they’re a cherry on top for those who use them.
Telstra business mobile customer support
Part of Telstra’s premium price tag is the extensive range of support options. While the actual support experience may differ from person to person or business to business, knowing that there are many ways to get in touch if things go wrong means a telco has invested in helping out its customers. Therefore, the more support channels available, the better the ranking for this category.
Telstra ticks all of the right boxes when it comes to support versatility. Whether you prefer to browse a blog, reach out on social media, call directly, chat online, dive into self-paced service or walk into a store, Telstra has you covered. You can also tap into dedicated business support via this Telstra page .

Best Telstra mobile plans (March 2023)
Here’s our independent recommendations on the network’s best phone plans

1. Best Optus mobile plans 2. Best Vodafone mobile plans
There’s a lot to like about Telstra’s offerings – while its plans are often the most expensive in the market, Telstra’s impressive coverage can be worth the steeper price of entry, particularly if you’re living in a regional or remote area of Australia.
Telstra hit its customers with a price hike on July 1, 2022, which increased the price of all its mobile plans by up to AU$4 extra a month. It reduced its mobile plan offering down to three options: the Basic plan (40GB for AU$58), the Essential plan (180GB for AU$68) and the Premium plan (300GB for AU$89).
We’ll be taking a look at various phones on this page, and seeing how they stack up on the Telstra network. If you’d like, you can jump ahead to our plan recommendations below:
Jump to: • Best SIM-only option – AU$58p/m for Telstra Basic plan • Best overall phone + plan combos – AU$116.29p/m for iPhone 14 | AU$97.54p/m for Samsung Galaxy S22 • Best cheap phone + plan combos – AU$87.95p/m for iPhone SE | AU$89.20p/m for Google Pixel 6a • Best premium phone + plan combos – AU$130.87p/m for iPhone 14 Pro | AU$135.04p/m for Samsung S22 Ultra

Telstra Basic plan | 40GB data | AU$58p/m (opens in new tab)
Telstra has the most expensive mobile plans among the three major telcos, but it does have the widest-reaching network in Australia, which will be essential for some. With this in mind, we’d recommend Telstra’s cheapest plan as the best overall, which gets you 40GB of data for AU$58 a month (before the price increase, it was AU$55 a month). The good news is that this plan now comes with access to Telstra’s 5G network as standard.
Total minimum cost is AU$58
Best overall phone + plan combos
Best overall iPhone + plan combo: our pick

iPhone 14 (128GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$116.29p/m (opens in new tab)
The latest iPhone is now available, and if you want to be on the Telstra network, the Basic 40GB plan (opens in new tab) is our recommendation. That will see you pay AU$116.29 each billing for 40GB of data, which is pricey compared to Optus and Vodafone’s equivalent plans to be sure. The Basic plan is the cheapest option available from Telstra, and comes with 5G access included.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$2,790.96
Best overall Android + plan combo: our pick

Samsung Galaxy S22 (128GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$97.54p/m (opens in new tab)
We’re expecting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S23 in February, so consider holding out if you want the latest device. If you’re happy with the S22 though, Telstra is currently offering a AU$300 discount on it (though Vodafone has it beat with a AU$400 saving). Pairing the S22 with Telstra’s AU$58 Basic plan (opens in new tab) will get you 40GB of data, and it’ll cost you AU$110.04 a month on a 24-month contract.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$2,340.96
Best cheap phone + plan combos
Best cheap iPhone + plan combo: our pick

iPhone SE 2022 (64GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$87.95p/m (opens in new tab)
The iPhone SE 2022 is Apple’s 'budget' iPhone, with a starting price of AU$719. For an affordable plan, we’d recommend pairing Telstra’s AU$58 Basic plan (opens in new tab) with the 64GB iPhone SE in black, red or white, which will see you pay AU$87.95 a month. You’ll get 40GB of data to play with each month, unlimited talk and text to standard numbers in Australia and 5G access.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$2,110.80
Best cheap Android phone + plan combo: our pick

Google Pixel 6a (128GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$89.20p/m (opens in new tab)
The Google Pixel 6a is an affordable phone at AU$749, but fair warning, Telstra’s got the most expensive plan ( Vodafone is your cheapest option). If you need to go with Telstra, we recommend the Basic 40GB plan (opens in new tab) – that’ll cost you AU$89.20 each billing period if you pay it off over 24 months. Telstra’s plan is AU$13 more a month than you’d pay over at Vodafone, but you might be swayed by Telstra’s better coverage.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$2,140.80
Best premium phone + plan combos
Best premium iPhone + plan combo: our pick

iPhone 14 Pro (128GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$130.87p/m (opens in new tab)
For the best premium iPhone, you’ll want to go with either the 14 Pro (opens in new tab) or 14 Pro Max (opens in new tab) , depending on your size preference. The Pro has the same 6.1-inch screen size as the regular iPhone 14, while the Pro Max stretches out to 6.7 inches. Whichever you go with, we think Telstra’s Basic plan (opens in new tab) on a 24-month contract is best, as it’ll get you 40GB of data from AU$130.87 a month.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$3,140.88
Best premium Android + plan combo: our pick

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (128GB) | 40GB data | 24 months | AU$135.04p/m (opens in new tab)
If you want to buy Samsung’s premium phone, we’d suggest waiting until the release of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra , as it’s expected to be unveiled in February (and is tipped to have better cameras too). Still want the S22 Ultra? Then pair it with Telstra’s Basic plan (opens in new tab) , which will see you pay AU$135.04 a month on a 24-month contract. The Basic plan comes with 40GB of data each month, or an extra AU$10 each billing can get you 180GB if you need.
Total cost over 24 months is AU$3,240.96

Plan Details
No lock-in plan.
Telstra's month-to-month, no lock-in mobile plans give you the flexibility to change your plan size once a month, to suit your data needs. You can also cancel your plan anytime. If you leave, simply pay out your device.
Bring Your Own Device
You can bring your own compatible device with this plan. For the best possible experieince on the Telstra Mobile Network, use a handset that supports 3G-850MHz, both 4G 1800MHz and 4G 700MHz and 5G 3500 MHz banding. Check your device manual or manufacturer's website.
No Excess Data Charges
With no excess data charging, if you exceed your included data allowance, your data speeds are capped at 1.5Mbps until the end of your bill cycle (not suitable for HD video or high speed applications, and means that some web pages, video/social media content and some large files may take longer to load) and slowed further during busy periods.
International Calls & SMS
This plan includes 30 minutes of calls from Australia to standard numbers in all destinations. Once you’ve used your 30mins of included calls, you can then add an International Calling Pack to receive additional call minutes to selected destinations. Things to know
Annual price review: Telstra's mobile and data plans include an annual price review and may increase in line with CPI in July each year. CPI measures household inflation and is released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. We'll use the CPI for full year to March quarter and any increase will be rounded to the nearest dollar and occurs within your July billing cycle. We'll let you know before any changes take effect.
Telstra 5G: Telstra currently offers 5G in select areas and is progressively rolling it out to other areas. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G or 3G. Check coverage at Telstra website.
4GX: The Telstra Mobile Network offers 4GX in all capital CBDs and selected suburban and regional areas and is progressively rolling out to more places. In other coverage areas around Australia, you’ll automatically switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G. Check coverage at Telstra website.
Typical download speeds in 4GX areas are 5 -300Mbps with category 16 devices, 5-200Mbps with category 11 devices, 5-150Mbps with category 9 devices, 2-100Mbps with category 6 devices, and 2-75Mbps with category 4 devices. Outside 4GX areas, you will switch to our fastest available 4G or 3G speeds. Speeds vary for reasons like location, distance from base stations, terrain, user numbers, hardware/software configuration, download source and upload destination.
Month-to-month plans: If you cancel your service, you will receive a pro rata refund for the remainder of your month. If you have any device, accessory or service add-ons attached to your plan, you will have to pay any remaining amount owing on your next bill.
Talk, Text and Data: Excludes calls/SMS/MMS to premium numbers, 12xx, satellite numbers, content charges and use overseas.
No excess data charges in Australia: When you exceed your allowance, you can continue to access data, but your speed will be slowed to a maximum of 1.5Mbps. This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications, and some web pages, social media content and files may take longer to load.
Your speed will depend on a range of factors including your device, location, user numbers and download sources, and may be slowed further during busy periods. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods. For personal use on a smartphone in Australia only and the FairPlay Policy applies.
Compatible Handset: Compatible Telstra Mobile Network handset required. For more info visit Telstra website.
International Calling and SMS: This plan includes 30 minutes of calls from Australia to standard numbers in all destinations. Once you’ve used your 30mins of included calls, you can then add an International Calling Pack to receive additional call minutes to selected destinations. If you don’t add an International Calling Pack or if your destination isn’t included in the calling packs, you will be unable to call this destination until your call inclusions reset next month. You will continue to have unlimited standard international SMS/MMS from Australia to all destinations, even once your 30 minutes of calls has been used.

Telstra is widely known for having the largest and fastest mobile network in Australia. They cover 99.4% of the population, whereas Optus, the second largest mobile network, covers 98.5% coverage. It’s a small difference, and is generally only noticed in more remote regional areas.

Telstra’s new mobile plans: higher prices, but more monthly data
Posted by Tara Donnelly 30/06/2020
Telstra has unveiled a surprise mobile plan shake-up that will offer customers more data, but for a higher monthly price.
Beginning Wednesday, 1 July 2020, all of Telstra’s postpaid mobile plans will receive a data and pricing update, with costs rising by as much as $15 per month on the premium Extra Large option. However, all four plans will also be given a high-speed data increase in line with price changes, and Medium, Large and Extra Large plans will all feature continued 5G network access at no extra cost.
To sum up the changes, Telstra’s Small, Medium and Large plans will each increase in price by $5 per month, while the Extra Large plan has been bumped up by $15 monthly. All four plans also include more full-speed data: 10GB per month more on the Small plan, 20GB extra on the Medium and Large plans, and 30GB more on the Extra Large plan.
Overall, Telstra announced half-a-dozen major plan and policy updates, including:
- Increased high-speed data on all postpaid plans
- Increased monthly postpaid plan fees ($5 increase for Small, Medium, and Large plans, and $15 increase for Extra Large plans)
- Free 5G network access on Medium, Large, and Extra Large plans
- Free 3 months of BINGE streaming for postpaid customers
- Additional free BINGE streaming for Telstra Plus rewards members
- Revised financial hardship initiatives

Telstra postpaid plans: price and data changes
Telstra has acknowledged that the increasing reliance of Australians on data and fast connections had contributed to the plan changes, particularly in light of recent lock downs across the country. More data is great news for customers, as is the lowering of restrictions on 5G access – but the changes will come with a requisite price spike.
We’ve highlighted the main postpaid plan changes below.
Telstra Small Plan
- Was $50 per month, now $55 per month
- Was 30GB of data, now 40GB of data
Telstra Medium Plan
- Was $60 per month, now $65 per month
- Was 60GB of data, now 80GB of data
- 5G network access now included free
Telstra Large Plan
- Was $80 per month, now $85 per month
- Was 100GB of data, now 120GB of data
Telstra Extra Large Plan
- Was $100 per month, now $115 per month
- Was 150GB of data, now 180GB of data
All the above changes will go live from tomorrow (1 July, 2020) for new customers – but if you’re currently with Telstra, you do have a bit of wiggle room. While all existing Telstra customers will be migrated to the new plans, savvy subscribers who upgrade before 30 September, 2020 won’t receive a price increase for their first year. Essentially, move to the new plans from your current Telstra postpaid plan by October, and you’ll score a monthly credit to help offset the price difference for the next 12 months.
Telstra’s new postpaid plans all include unlimited standard national talk and text in Australia, plus unlimited speed-capped gigabytes to prevent overage fees. This means that along with a limited number of full-speed gigabytes each month, your plan also includes unlimited data restricted to speeds of 1.5Mbps – so you’ll never be charged for exceeding your plan’s data allowance.
All plans are available on a month-to-month basis, so you’re free to swap between plans each month as your data and usage needs dictate. The price and data changes will also apply to both SIM-only customers, and to those who have purchased a new smartphone on Telstra’s device payment plans over 24 or 36 months.
If you do want to jump on board with Telstra before the price changes go live – and keep the lower pricing for a little longer – you can sign up to any of Telstra’s postpaid plans via the below table. But remember that the new pricing goes into effect from 1 July, and all new sign-ups from that date will be subject to the updated data and price changes.
The following table shows published Telstra postpaid plans on Canstar Blue’s database, listed in order of cost, from the lowest to highest and then by data allowance, largest to smallest. Use our comparison tool to review plans from a range of other providers. This is a selection of products with links to a referral partner.
Are Telstra’s plan updates any good?
Telstra’s plan refresh means you’ll pay a little extra each month (and $15 more for Extra Large customers), but ultimately get more data for your dollars. Unfortunately, a truly entry-level postpaid Telstra plan still isn’t available; with plans starting at $55 monthly for 40GB of data, there’s not much to entice low-level or budget-conscious customers to sign on, especially when so many smaller providers offer simple plans for as little as $10 per month .
Another downside is that Telstra still hasn’t brought back the international inclusions found in previous postpaid plans. The telco scrapped included overseas calling, texting and roaming in its last plan refresh and hasn’t made any moves to bring these features back – but customers can still add an international call pack from $10 per month, as well as data roaming from $10 per day ($5 in New Zealand).
While this does make Telstra plans a little more customisable, it’s still disappointing for customers who enjoy the perks of unlimited international talk and text. While $10 per month isn’t a huge price to pay for overseas calling, keep in mind that only selected countries are included in the add-on pack.
The good news is that it appears that Telstra will be keeping plan extras such as data-free Apple Music streaming (subscription required), data-free live sports (AFL, AFLW, NRL, Netball and A-League), and free Telstra Air WiFi access. So overall, you’ll get plenty of inclusions on Telstra’s updated plans, along with the flexibility to swap between tiers or add new devices at any time.
Telstra 5G price changes
Alongside changes to prices and included high-speed data, Telstra has also revised its approach to 5G network access. While use of its 5G mobile network is free for all customers until July 1, 2020, Telstra had originally planned to charge users on Small and Medium mobile plans an extra $15 per month for 5G access after this date (Large and Extra Large plans would continue to offer 5G coverage at no extra cost).
However, Telstra will now offer free 5G access on Medium plans, in addition to its pricier Large and Extra Large options, and will abandon plans to charge a 5G access fee. This means that Small plan customers will be required to upgrade to larger plan for continued 5G access after today’s cut-off. However, this plan switch is optional, so if you’re a Small plan customer not currently using a 5G handset , you won’t be pressured to upgrade or pay extra for a network you’re not actually using.
If you’re an existing customer on Telstra’s Small plan, and you do have a 5G-capable smartphone – such as the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G series, or the OPPO Find X2 Neo – you’ll be automatically migrated to the Medium plan so you can continue to use 5G. But as discussed above, Telstra is offering 12 months of account credits to cover the price difference, so you won’t pay more for a full year on your new plan.
Free BINGE for postpaid customers and Telstra Plus members
Alongside this week’s major plan changes, Telstra is also throwing in some streaming freebies for postpaid and Telstra Plus customers. Sign up to Foxtel’s brand-new streaming service BINGE via Telstra, and you’ll score your first three months completely free.
If you’re part of the Telstra Plus loyalty program, you’ll qualify for even more free BINGE-ing: an extra three months for Bronze members (six months in total), six months for Silver members (nine months in total), and nine more months for Gold members (the full 12 months in total). Telstra Plus is free to join, and the telco is also offering customers on the new Medium, Large and Extra Large postpaid plans up to 50% more points for every dollar spent – more info on how Telstra Plus works is available in our guide .
Telstra customers can use their free BINGE subscription to stream from Foxtel’s extensive library of on-demand content, including new release movies, television shows, documentaries, kids’ programming and more. Priced from just $10 per month for the Basic plan, Telstra’s BINGE offer can save Gold Telstra Plus customers up to $120 over a year of free streaming, or a minimum of $30 for postpaid customers without a Telstra Plus membership.
If sport is more your thing, Telstra is also extending its popular Kayo streaming offer through to 30 September, 2020. Telstra customers can sign up to Kayo Basic for just $15 per month (down from $25), or Kayo Premium for $25 monthly (normally $35) for their first 12 months. Originally scheduled to end on 30 June, 2020, this offer has been extended to the end of September as live sports begin to return.
Financial hardship updates
Finally, Telstra has announced changes to financial hardship measures, prompted by the ongoing economic impact of disasters such as bushfires and COVID-19. Telstra has confirmed the following updates to financial hardship initiatives:
- Removing late/dishonour fees for customers on direct debits
- Allowing consumer and small business customers to suspend their services online when circumstances change, and to re-start at no cost
- Continuing the new $30 affordable mobile offer for eligible customers
- Extending the Connected Family Internet Offer to 30 September, 2020.
